Just the two of us

Hubby, Junior and Jack Dog have disappeared to Albany for a few days, so it is just Bub and I at home for the weekend. Having now spent a day with just Bub, I have realize just how little one-on-one time we spend together. Junior still gets his "Mum" time when Bub takes his naps, but Bub very rarely gets time with me on his own.
It has been very nice to spend some time together - reading books (without interruptions), sing songs (without constant request for something different), going for a walk and playing at the park, dropping into the Cafe for morning tea, pottering in the garden together. Our time together has been nice and peaceful but ever-so quiet. I think we are both enjoying it but also missing the constant energy and movement which is Bub's three and a half year old big brother!

Happy Australia Day

Happy Australia Day everyone on this glorious sunny day. Perfect for an early morning walk to the Park with my boys.
Hope you all have a great day however you choose to spend it.

Colourful carnations

As I mentioned yesterday we are all suffering from cabin fever here so this morning after a quick trip to the shops Junior and I decided it was time for a little science (we haven't done any for so long).
I recently read a little article in the playgroup newsletter which inspired us to try colouring some flowers this morning.
Two white Carnations, some water and food colouring and we were set. A couple of hours later and we had some very pretty results. They will probably be even more impressive tomorrow but I don't know that I will get a chance to blog then so I thought I would take the chance when it arose.
There are more great kids science ideas on the Scitech Website and if you are in Perth, take a look at the program for their Toddlerfest coming up next month. Junior and I went last year and had a fantastic time.

Bub's got spots

Lots and lots of spots! I'm not sure if it is a reaction to the vaccinations he had last Thursday or Chicken Pox but we have been staying at home just in case - not Bub's idea of a good time as he is a real outdoors boy.
With the temperature getting over 40 degrees C this weekend we are all going a little stir crazy but Junior (who is blissfully spot free) took a trip to Beatty Park Aquatic Centre this morning to burn up some excess energy and get some much needed one-on-one Daddy time.
Hopefully a trip to the GP in the morning will give us a better idea of what Bub has, how contagious it is, and how long we will be stuck at home. In the mean time we are singing, dancing, making all sorts of things from cardboard boxes and hoping clear skin is on the horizon soon. Fingers crossed.

Last Days

All good things must come to an end and we are nearing the end of our little summer holiday. The start of 2010 has been a nice relaxing time for us visiting relies, playing with cousins and splashing at the beach. Junior had a couple of firsts - first night camping (with Dad on the lawn at the farm) and first fishing trip with his new rod (only caught some seaweed but loved it all the same). After a mostly overcast week the sun is shining on us again so this morning the boys and I took an early morning dip.Next week back to work - sigh!
